KTA 4: primary research methods
Primary research is gathering first hand information and data. (You doing it yourself).
Quantitative primary methods
- Questionnaire - Shorter, email, less personal, quick data collection method, more to the point, likert scale.
- Survey - demographic info, can be face to face/ email, long, large media research organisations (can have qualitative responses).
- Social media polls - often short, instant feedback
- Market research- companies doing mass data collection. BARB(viewing), RAJAR(listening), PAMCo(publishing and audience).
- Observation (counting)
- Textual analysis - personal
- Product testing- screen testing - personal, group, rushes sample material
- Focus groups - face to face
- Observation (work experience) - making notes
- Interviews - face to face/ VOIP(voice over Internet protocol)(skype, teams etc)
Referring to our brief we would be able to:
- Quantitative- questionnaire(email), social media poll.
- Qualitative- textual analysis, interview with Rob Speranza, focus group.
